The Battle of The Sexes

· Courage,Inspiration

I just saw the Battle of the Sexes, the movie that tells the story of Billie Jean King’s championship win over Bobby Riggs in the historic tennis match they played at the Houston Astrodome in 1973 – and the events that led up to it.

King’s courage to stand up to the tennis establishment and insist that women make as much prize money as men changed the tennis scene – for both sexes – forever. Her courage to stand up for LGBT rights changed human rights – for the LGBT community and the heterosexual world – forever.

In 2009 Billie Jean King was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, a well-deserved award for a woman of courage, character, and conscience.
